Easy Christmas Gift: Coffee Filter Wreath.
66Finished Coffee Filter Wreath
Last minute homemade Christmas
There are five days left before Christmas. Any of you out there still need to find gifts for people? If you are even a little bit crafty, you can easily do this project. I was able to make six miniature wreaths with only about $12. Super easy, super pretty, and super cheap!
You Will Need:
- hot glue gun
- glue sticks for said glue gun
- craft knife (or scissors, but craft knife makes it much easier)
- foam board (about $2)
- coffee filters (coffee filters about $2 a package, I spent $4 total)
- flower or some other Christmas trinket (if desired) ($2 per 3 poinsettias, $4 total)
- wide ribbon (about $2)
How to do it:
- Find a bowl or a lamp shad that is about the circumference that you would like your wreath to be. I made mini wreaths to give to family, so I used a decent sized mixing bowl as a pattern. Then find another circle shape that would be about the right size for the "doughnut hole" in the center of the wreath. Trace these shapes to make your "doughnuts" on the foam board.
- Use a craft knife to cut your circle out of the the board, then cut out your second circle, and you have the hardest part of this craft done!
- Take one coffee filter, find the center and fold it so that it becomes a "mega-phone" shape. (Like how I'm making up all of these analogies?) Then put a dot of hot glue on the tip and attach to the wreath. I like to make a layer around the center of the wreath first. Repeat, repeat, and repeat some more.
- After I have a complete layer around the wreath, I go back and put another layer underneath all the way around. If I made bigger wreaths it would take more layers to make the wreath look full. It took me about 50 coffee filters to cover these mini-wreaths.
- Once you are done gluing on your coffee filters, you can go back and touch up a little bit. Put a little extra glue on filters that look like they may fall off. Also, there are some that may stick out a little too much, that you can just trim off with scissors.
- Next, glue on your flower or other little pretty decoration. I also glued on a couple little leaves under the flower for a little more color and interest. This wreath would NOT have to be Christmas, you could make it for any season. I even saw one that had a removable figurine in the middle of the wreath so that they could leave it up all year and just change out the decoration. Be creative!
- Cut a wide ribbon and glue it to the back of your wreath.
- Voila! A beautiful Christmas decoration that was fun to make!

Nice idea! You know the craft where you dip coffee filters into food coloring and water to stain them? You could do that before attaching the filters to the base. Pretty! (In China white puffy wreaths like these are used when someone dies. So don't give one to a Chinese friend!)
Great idea. Its very creative and affordable :)
Oh my god, I love this project. It's something I would so do!! Thanks for sharing, it's so simple but yet looks so elegant. And using the food coloring idea would definitely top off this great home craft.
Wow, the wreaths turned out really well. I wouldn't have thought a coffee filter wreath would look so nice. What a great idea!
Great and creative idea.
Wow this is fantastic and just fills me with ideas. I can get coffee filter at dollar tree, well, for a dollar so I would love to try something not Christmas for my room or a gift later since I am done with Christmas work, lol. But I will remember it for next year, voted up! A valentine one, wouldn't that be great? Thanks so much!
That's really pretty, great directions. Voted up.
